Aragorn - I always liked him in the books, and Viggo Mortenson's portrayal of the character has only convinced me he's even cooler. Somehow, I just couldn't connect to someone quite so wise and powerful as Gandalf; while he does have his worries and doubts, he's too superhuman. Aragorn, on the other hand, is amazing without being so distant.

Sense the question is who would I aspire to be like, I definately have to say Samwise. Not the most powerful, or the grandest, but certianly possessed of an unparalled strength of character.

I was one of the rare folks to chose Merry. I admire how Master Brandybuck remains loyal to King Theoden, and manages to rise above his own fears, inspired by Eowyn to face the leader of the Nazgul. he knows his weaknesses but rises above them, whilst never losing himself. I would like to be able to be so inspired to achieve the very best I can despite the odds.

Boromir,
Cause he does it all, even the bad stuff, and manages to die well.

Gimli is pretty cool, but I'd hate to be one of the characters who you know is going to make it out all right.

Now, is this which member we would aspire to be or to do? ;)

Boromir is not the most admirable member of the Fellowship, but I am most like him, I fear. And in death he did redeem himself before his King.

Boromir

For me Boromir is the guy I can best relate to in the movie. I mean, the movie Aragorn doesn't even come close to the book Aragorn. I believe they could have cast that role much better and I was just dissapointed by it. Earlier someone mentioned that Gandalf had earned his power by 'walking among the people', but the knowledge I gained from reading the books says that Gandalf, and indeed all the other wizards including Saruman, are not from Middle Earth and gained their powers my simply being born where ever it is they are from. The humor of Gimli did nothing to harm him in my mind, he was a close second, and I could never see myself as a fragile little elf or an even smaller halfling. So it is Boromir for me. Why? Boromir was drawn to the ring because of his desire to do good. Nothing wrong with that. But one thing you miss in the movie is that Boromir and the Fellowship had traveled for weeks, if not months, together by the end of the first movie. Boromir resisted the Ring all that time and, let's face it, he could have taken it from Frodo at any time. I'd put my money on Boromir in a fight between he and Aragorn as well. How many men do you know that has to be pinned down with arrows because you can't kill him?
