Of course, to not make THE HOBBIT with the established cast would be an unforgivable crime. :D
I thought Ian Holm (Bilbo) died of cancer shortly after the movies were complete. I'd be very happy to be wrong, though.

I think Ian holm is alive and well. At least accordinmg to IMDB.

I think that the greater contribution that Jackson has given to film is that he has shown a technique for making a great fantasy epic. Other directors can follow in his footsteps. But the way I see it is that he will never do another fantasy as it will be compared to LotR and seen as inferior. M. Night Shay... could do a good job of a fantasy suspense (signs is great in that respect) but there will definately be other directors that will do fantasy films. PJ should expect to get lots of phone calls when that happens.

I agree a that Peter Jackson would probably want to diversify and as for letting the last director of D&D back again please shoot me first. Who I'd like to see do it is Ridley Scott, He is great with visual effects and creating immersing worlds, and there is no way he would let such an abomination as the first film see the light of day.

Hmm- he did make garbage like Blade Runner, Legend, Gi Jane, and Hannibal; but he also made great movies like The Duellists and Black Rain.

No, the odds are in favor of him making a bad movie.

I LOVE the DL novels! However, judging by my experiences in other games, it seems like it could be difficult to play in a realm where there are already epic heroes. The Heroes of the Lance are so widely known and so epic, I think it would be hard to have an adventure that lives up to their saving the world & all. ;) Not saying that Krynn wouldn't be an awesome setting for a campaign, but I could see why it might be difficult.

As for movies, I would be absolutely ESTATIC if they decided to make a DL or FR movie! The anticipation for LOTR drove me mad for awhile, but I'm doing okay now that we have the DVD and can watch it at will. (Of course, that only helps a little with the anticipation of the next installment!) :D

Blade Runner is a lot like Legend- it represents one of the most over-rated movies of its genre. They both also suffer the same problem- they are horribly paced and boring.

I did not forget Gladiator- it is just not a great movie or a bad one. It is ok. Almost any non-fighting scene with Russel Crowe is a waste of film, but the scenes with Joaquin Phoenix & Connie Nielsen (if I am getting her name correctly) are excellent.
