If I only had the money for one book, I wouldn't buy any of the ones on your list. I'd get Magical Medieval Society instead. It will be useful far longer, and far more often than any of the choices you list.

I endorse this advice 100%. Failing that, get From Stone to Steel. Whatever you do, don't buy the Arms and Equipment Guide (or if you must, buy mine).

Yeah, Listen to Buttercup. I've only heard good stuff about that book.

It's considered a must by some people.

Why oh why WotC when there are so many other wonderful products out there that will enhance your game.

Monsternomicon! Bluffside! Magical Medieval Society! Scarred Lands! Midnight! Airships! AEG Toolbox! Elements of Magic!

BoVD if you have to have one. :)

I'd echo Buttercup's comments as well. It's an amazing book.

However from your list, I voted Fiend Folio, but I think the BoVD is extremely good, and I like 3.5 a lot too. AU holds next to no intrest to me as I still like and enjoy the DnD fantasy archtypes. Stronghold Builder's guide is kinda cool but not essential, same with savage species (and if you're goign to upgrade to 3.5, maybe don't bother) Ghostwalk also looks kinda dumb, and I've heard bad things about Arms and Equipment Guide, but it looked like it would have useful stuff to me (it's not a list of armements, it's got rules for vehicle combat, hirelings and the like).

jb,

If some people told you to jump off a bridge would you do it that too? ;) *is kidding*

In fact listen to Hand! He knows what he's talking about. Ignore dice comments. ;)
