No, it's not.

Sadly I own neither book, a player of mine does, and that's the only time I've seen them. I bet they're somewhere on the WotC site, somewhere.

It isn't just the picture, though. The abilities seem like they made the abilities then tied blood to them for the most part. An offensive ability that gives conciousness to an opponent's blood? Riiiiight... To me, that's silly. Not to mention Blood Walk. The potion of blood thing is kind of neat, but I can't get over the image of a guy sucking at the Blood Magus's arm for a Bull's Strength. Again, silly. There were other abilities I can't think of right now.

Blood magic is a cool thing. I like blood magic. This isn't blood magic, its some kind of amalgomation of abilities thrown together using blood as an excuse.

YMMV of course. I just want to rant about it, partly because in the last thread I loved all the PrCs. :)

My picks:
  1. Elemental Savant - Primarily because I think the energy/elemental equivalence is dunderheaded. If I chopped off 10th level and renamed it the "energy savant", it would be more worthwhile, but if you want an elementalist PrC, there are better takes out there (like Blackmoor's Elementalist.)
  2. Mindbender - too much like a psionicist.
  3. Seeker of the Song and Sublime Chord - The concepts simply do nothing for me. I know they were looking for nifty variant bard concepts; the problem is really with the bard: it's too narrow to begin with... finding a "specialization" for it is tricky.
  4. Suel Arcanamach - There are better third party fighter/mage variants out there.
  5. Wild Mage - It's the Tome of Magic wild mage repackaged, sans wild magic spells. Better/more creative variants exist in third party products (esp. Wild Spellcraft.)

I agree with these picks.

IMC, element and energy are just aspect of the same thing, so I have [Water] descriptor spells, water damage, and water energons. (I also have acid elementals...) Elemental Savant, as is, doesn't work, but once changed so that an Earth Savant isn't a specialist of acid spells, it's OK.

Mindbender could have deserved to be redesigned as an enchanter/telepath combo, in the same way the True Necromancer is a necromancer/evil cleric combo.

The other don't do much for me. And I hate classes with separate spell progression, such as the arcanamarch. I hate all those spell lists. I've long been a proponent of the "one magic type=one spell list" rather than "one spellcasting class=one spell list".

As for those that think the Mindbender is too close to psionics...well, that's exactly why I like it. I don't have to incorporate psionics in order to have someone who can play in other people's heads.

I don't know. I loves me some psionics, but I still think there's plenty of room for the Mindbender. Telepathic control shouldn't be limited to the psions.

I have Clerics in my game, but I still like the Sangehirn.

I love the seeker of the song - a way for bards to become very powerful casters.

The intiate of the seven veils has a huge problem in that it is a great NPC class or good it starting at that level. but its powers are balanced by the ridicoulusly useless feat requirements can you imagine going "ooh I got a new feat I could take meta magic, item creation or Greater Spell Focus Abjuration? " New feats are one of the fun things about gaining levels, and this class forces you to piss them away.
BTW what 1st level wizard knows he wants to focus on prismatic magic. It makes more sense that your barely aware of the existance of this class, only heading for it by the time you reach mid levels.
Did I know that I was going for a masters in Urban Planning (economic concentration) when I was in undergrad archtecture? or in HS drafting class? do pre-meds know they are going into oncology?
How does this survive as a tradition? I have one in my world, following a path laid down by a mage 700 years earlier. And I like the class! but never expect a PC to take it.

Green Star Adept. Pointless prerequisites, silly idea, and more importantly, a real campaign derailer.

Elemental Savant: Gutted. Beyond all belief.

I don't care what anyone says though, I loves my Alienist.

green star adept: i just don't like the flavor of the prc. it doesn't appeal to me at all, though it's at least an original idea.

wild mage: because it just doesn't quite do things interestingly enough for me. wild magic should be WILD magic. i want d1000 tables of random effects and interesting roleplay ideas! i want bizzare and potentialy party-lethal effects that make no sense! i want WILD magic... and this class just doesn't do it for me.
