1..Lord of Madness - BBEGs and a resource for a long time
2..Complete Arcane - As stated by Thanee
3..Sandstorm - Location, location, location

Races...I was a bit disappointed with, bit font and no Warforge love ;)

If your playing in Eberon Then this would be a good choice,
otherwise the Lords of madness has better flavor if your running a game and are ready to setup a new plot or story arch.

Compleate Arcane is nice, a couple of immediatly useful spells,(mass resist element) lots of ways to renforce of the link between dragons and sorcerers - at least 1 great PrC(sublime cord) a great villain Prc (Intiate of sevenfold vail) and the afformentioned Warlock (although I am not thrilled with the way it plays). And a bunch of spells that i dislike (orbs)
- this is the only one I Own

I voted for CA over Lords of Madness only because it can be used as a resource by both players and DMs equally. LoM has some resources for a player but is mainly for DMs. By and large, both are excellent books.

I also love RoE but if you're not playing in Eberron it, obviously, won't be of as much value to you. And, unless you're playing in a desert setting, Sandstorm is pointless.

I don't have Lords of Madness or Races of Eberron.

Of the other two, I'd recommend Complete Arcane.

There are some good feats for sorcerers - the draconic heritage feats, and the extra spell known feat. The mage of the arcane order is also a fantastic prestige class for sorcerers who take the arcane preparation feat (even though it is apparently designed for wizards). I like sorcerers. :)

I also like the green star adept prestige class. Turn your character into a living statue made of green star metal! The DM will never need to worry about a plot hook again.

DM "There are rumours a cache of star metal has been hidden in the Swamp of Painful Annihilation."
Player "Great, I'm on my way."

Complete Arcane for the Warlock. It has some other excellent content, as well, but the Warlock rocks. Complete Adventurer was a better "read", but I think Complete Arcane has the most meat of any of the series.

I'm not a huge fan of aberrations -- in fact, I cannot stand either the beholder or aboleth. That said, thumbing through Lords of Madness at Barnes and Noble started to redeem aberrations in my eyes. There are some neat ideas in there on working them into a setting and not making them absurd. It's definitely on my list to buy. I still think Complete Arcane is a better book, though.

I've thumbed through the other two, as well. Both are decent books, but rather niche-oriented. If you aren't playing in Eberron or in a desert, I wouldn't worry about them. I know my campaign will see some desert play, and I'd like to run an Eberron game sometime, so both are on my list, but I wouldn't put much urgency on them.

If I hadn't just coughed up for a case of minis, I'd have gotten Lords of Madness for sure, and probably the other two. Although I might have gone for some of the new World of Darkness stuff, instead -- Forsaken looks incredible, and that means a lot coming from me.
