Which spell/metamagic feats are most relevant?

Let me explain.......

Three weeks ago or so, I started a thread called "Spells for Non-spellcasters 101". I've since been in the process of reworking many of the basics and equations behind the concept as well as anticipating possible critiques (not to mention critics!) of the system.

I'm now at a point where the question has arisen in my mind "could a non-spellcaster who learns a random spell augment said spell with a feat or feats?" Well, I've theorized a few answers, but lack the overall info with which to reach a definitive conclusion.

What info do I need? This:

I've the 3.0 PHB & DMG & all the pertinent SRDs, but what I REALLY want to know is are there any spell/metamagic feats out there that are good/common enough to possess that AREN'T part of the aforementioned informative works? If yes, would you like to post them for me? I'd appreciate it immensely!

I'm just trying to cover all the possible rule-related scenarios before setting any type of system in stone. Thanks!

Plenty, I'd say.

There are quite a few metamagic feats out there beyond what is presented in the core rules.

Tome & Blood (soon to be in Complete Arcane) and various Forgotten Realms books have some really cool ones, for example.

Chain Spell, Energy Admixture, Energy Affinity/Substitution, Fortify Spell, Persistent Spell, Reach Spell, Sculpt Spell, Transdimensional Spell, Twin Spell, just to name a few, which actually see play.

I'm not entirely sure what you are looking for exactly, tho. :)
