Which system for a special forces game?

GURPS is great.

If you've got the time you can really customize FUDGE and it's free.

Additionally CoC might work well for this type of game.

I strongly recommend Spycraft Espionage Handbook (core rulebook), Modern Arms Guide (weapons and firearms supplement), and Soldier/Wheelman Class Guide (for use with the two core classes that are military-oriented).

Also, check out Afghanistan: d20. While many gamers avoid this supplement out of respect, the authors (Gulf war veterans themselves) wrote the game supplement with sensitivity in mind yet provide a good description of the region with game rules to play, including a US soldier. It's also cheap: $20 for the softcover product.

I'll second that.

Rolemaster. I'd love to be able to leave it at that, but I can't. You can't really go past it for realism and the necessary skill-use rules that you're going to need.

Oh, that would indeed be a bloody affair - even moreso that a typical Rolemaster game.

OMG I loved Twilight 2000!! I probably played that as much or more than D&D in the mid/late 80's :)

EDIT: GURPS w/GURPS Special Ops also was a truly stellar way to handle this stuff.

I'm gonna be starting a special forces campaign ala "Rainbow Six" and was wondering which system you would recommend. I haven't picked up Spycraft yet, would it work well?

Thanks,

Doug

Spycraft is more 'James Bond' than Rainbow Six... Rainbow Six is grittier, you want something like Shadowrun (very smoov) or GURPS: Special Ops.

Someone suggested keeping just WP, that may work too, but you remove part of the benefit of more combat-oriented characters, keep in mind.

I noticed that the Gurps Special Ops book has a new 3rd edition. How is it different from the 2nd? I had a chance to peruse the spycraft books mentioned above and I like all three alot.
