Really long post!
Hello all… Back from a LONG day at work. Here to reply and post to my hearts content.
SSquirel, don’t say anything else! You are actually revealing important plot information. The Gungan Sith are the main antagonists in the campaign! Jejeje…
iwatt, as interesting as Watto was, I don’t see a place for him! Anakin will not be from Tatooine, slave and a kid. He will be an adult ace pilot during the Clone Wars. I see him being form the core worlds, of humble beginnings. A man strong in the Jedi, but untrained. Obi Wan trains him and he eventually falls to the temptations of the Dark Side.
I also plan to do away with the idea that Jedi are celibate, owe no property, etc. It will vary according to the orders. The contemplative may have some restrictions similar to that of the movies. Just like religious orders in the real world.
Diggus, with regards to the characters form the prequels and EU I will be using, I guess I can talk a little about their roles without giving away too much.
Mace: He is the head of the militant order of Jedi. They are the most influential, and have a small armada as a fringe benefit of their relationship with the Duros, who live under their protectorate. He was adopted into a family of great renown, the founders of the order, and lives under the shadow of past greatness, struggling to live up to it every day.
Yoda: One of the most influential of the gurus of the mystic order. He struggles to guide the order through these dark times, and understand a prophecy that seems to be taking form in the shared consciousness of the force.
Dooku: Former member of the mystic order, trained under Yoda. He eventually abandoned the mystics and joined the militant order. His disdain for Mace’s leadership lead to him cutting all ties to that order and keeping his ancestral holdings and some nearby systems under his independent protectorate.
Qui-Gon: Dooku’s student and right hand man. He is Dooku’s enforcer and presence in his protectorate. He is a compassionate statesman and the man that makes Dooku’s protectorate possible. He was trained by Dooku independently of any order.
Obi-Wan: Member of the Military order. Taken from his family, the Lars, at an early age by the order as a sees sensed his potential. (Here I am simply indulging my memory when the RotJ adaptation and other sources briefly made Owen Lars Obi-Wan’s brother!) He was briefly under Yoda’s care when the orders still met in Council. Now he is an important military leader and possible teacher to the PCs.
I talked about Anakin earlier in the post…
Thrawn: Military genius and strategist, commander of the Jedi’s military order armada and Mace’s non-Jedi right hand man.
Jorus C'baoth: Once a member of the mystic order and a close friend of Yoda. He was influential in the creation of the religious sect, but has grown weary of their fanatics and their bent on converting the non-believers. He has his won independent protectorate of a few planets.
Tarkin: Bureaucrat and commander of the token Republic peace keeping and mediation forces, the token naval force and troops the Senate is allowed to maintain, ambitious and ruthless.
Bail Organa: A young man worried about the fate of his planet and its allies. He is concerned that their commitment to peace may doom his people in the coming times.
Palpatine: Senatorial Aide to House Organa.
Some Fetts may appear, can’t say anything else!
As you can see NO GUNGANS!
Ok here is the revised scroll, version 2. Thanks to Diggus for some concrete suggestions, all others who chimed in, and one of my players go gave me some feedback! More comments welcome!
Episode I
THE GATHERING STORM
The Republic crumbles.
The long peace mediated a thousand year ago by the Jedi cannot hold. The selfish autonomy of systems has rendered the Senate a token authority, at best, powerless to stop the factions within the Galactic Republic from an escalating armament race against threats real and imagined.
Citizens seek hope but are met with only indifference from their leaders, interested more in protecting their own assets. Commerce and travel have become dangerous as renegades, pirates and malefactors prey the hyperspace routes, rumors abound of mysterious ships coursing through hyperspace and massing beyond the Outer Rim.
The once fabled Jedi are divided along internal lines, no longer focused. Their numbers have dwindled as few youths see any honor in this ancient tradition. The Council has not met in a generation, all that remains are the Jedi Orders haphazardly clutching to their protectorates.
Among the turmoil a young ambitious diplomat sets out in a mission to secure the means that will keep his planet safe…
Question / asking for suggestions time!
Is there a calendar, or standard measure of time in the Star Wars universe, obviously not in the movies, but something in the EU? I know the ABY (I think that is the abbreviation, is in common use) used as we use AD, or CE these days. But is there another alternative? How do they measure days, months, is there a standard used by the Republic or Empire?
I will be using three main Jedi Orders (traditions), and not referencing the Jedi as a whole order. As I have said before, there will be three main orders/traditions, the militant one, contemplative, more mystical order, and a religious group. I’ve come up with the name to at least one of them but it is a Latin name, and I fear it may not bee too Star Wars-ish, any suggestions?
Has anyone ever mentioned Palpatine’s name, assuming that is his last name? Is it anywhere in the EU? Wookie Pedia has nothing on this!
Ok this post is just TOO LONG! Be back in awhile. Take care…
