Hi-

For GI-Joe I would use Savage Worlds. Why ? Because I assume the players will be playing as Gi-Joes so the detail of the chosen system should be focused on skilled but normal men. Mutants and Masterminds (the other game I would consider for this setting) is focused on super powers. In Savage Worlds, the details of the system are focused upon skilled yet normal men so there is more "space" to differentiate the characters.

Now you might ask what about Spycraft ? D20 Modern ? I would respond that as a Gi Joe I want to fight in vehicles, with automatic weapons, with 30 or 40 opponents and allies on the table at the same time...and I want to finish several such combats in the the course of one evening ... so I would pick Savage Worlds which is designed for exactly these sorts of situations.

kommisar, an intresting idea their... I know Savage Worlds even less though. :(

Savage Worlds is similar to M&M in that it is classless, and does away with hit points. However the emphasis is on skills and feats that differentiate normal people where MnM is all about the powers that make you a superhero. Yes there are superpowers in Savage Worlds but they are less detailed than MnM. So for GI-joe I say Savage Worlds. For Superheros - Mutants and Masterminds.

Actually you could do all of this with Spycraft. It has some of the best, and most cinematic chase and driving rules to be found anywhere (especially now that you can play Chicken, guns blazing (including rocket launchers) with the rules in Soldier/Wheelman Class Guide). It has one of the best and most thorough weapon guides in the Modern Arms Guide, all characters know how to burst and strafe, and there are so many great NPC and PC classes.

hope this helps.

Well, i'd rather run a pseudo-military campaign with the combat rules from Spycraft, especially with what i've heard abou the fluid initiative system (in a supplement)--the gun rules are much better. Also, how Spycraft deals with crits/errors i think is much better, especially for a GI Joe game, where skills other than combat are often the most important--Spycraft lets you crit on any skill, not just combat.

But, actually, if i were going to run a GI Joe game, i'd dig up the Fudge GI Joe rules that i've seen--they derive their stats from the profile cards that were on the back of the actual GI Joe figures.

edit: oh yeah: and the minion/mastermind rules are so very cool and so obviously designed for GI Joe, at least as much so as for James Bond, that i don't see how you could pass on them.

My levels are deviated from their file cards (mainly rank) I would be curious to see this fudge GI Joe though... Also if you’re interested in playing we have recruiting going on over in talking the talk. Link is in my sig. :)

Throw another vote in for Savage Worlds in on this one. As much as I looooove Spycraft, the much vaunted and beautifully designed vehicle combat rules kind of fall apart in big mass battles -- something I'm working on a fudge for in my spare time, buy the way.

At the very least, you need some sort of spiffy Mooks rule.
