Whirlwind Attack and reach

Just to make ABSOLUTELY SURE: a PC IMC is about to take Whirlwind Attack. He uses a spiked chain, which is a reach weapon. Most of us (including me) believe that opponents must still be within 5' to be subject to his Whirlwind Attack - that reach doesn't change that. Are we right?

Correct. To get Whirlwind Attack with reach requires the Epic Whirlwind Attack feat.

Yes, there is no exception to the 5ft restriction.
