Whirlwind touch attacks... Brrrrr. I'm posting because I wanted to see if a lich could whirlwind attack with his template granted negative energy/paralyzing touch attack. If whirlwind chill touch is legal, then I guess whirlwind lich attack is as well.

I got a shiver from this post...

I think that the version of whirlwind attack presented in the d20 modern SRD was reworded specifically to clear up these issues, here is the new wording from d20 modern.

Whirlwind Attack
Prerequisites: Dexterity 13, Intelligence 13, Dodge, Mobility, Spring Attack, Combat Expertise, base attack bonus +4.
Benefit: When the character performs a full-round action, the character can give up his or her regular attacks and instead make one melee attack at the character’s highest base attack bonus against each adjacent opponent.

It is all adjacent creatures not all creatures within 5 feet.

I believe that adjacency is used instead of threatened area because of a weapon's bulk. It is much harder to use a weapon that has a reach because of its bulk and therefor they cannot be used in whirlwind attacks. Although I would allow it if it were a natural reach the creature had, such as a troll's 10 foot reach. But remember that a creature with a natural reach does not threaten the square immediatly adjacent to them so they would take out the second line but not the first line, if that makes any sense.

Creatures with natural reach do threaten all squares within their reach, unless the creature is using a longer weapon to extend its reach (e.g. an ogre with a huge longspear). I tried to find it in the SRD, but could not. Does someone have the book handy?

LOL You actually think the lich in question would take the pre-reqs? My DM is evil. The Loremaster Secret Feat lets you take a feat that you don't have the pre-reqs for, and is perfect for smackdowns.

What is even funnier is the fact that in the campaign I'm in, the main fighter got a weapon with a minor vampiric touch effect on it. It drains d6 hp per hit. When he rages and goes into dire bear form (OA prestige class). His base is humongous. Next level he'll have Great Cleave with 10' reach. Very nasty.

By the way, my PH says Whirlwind Attack only works on opponents within 5 ft, not adjacent opponents. A subtle but important difference. Is this a printing edition issue?
