White Wolf character creation

I ran a western game using the WoD rules. It was a blast. It's easy to learn and play.

Let me warn you about rifles though...they add dice to your pool when shooting. So a good rifle will add 5 dice. If a pc has average stats and a 1 or 2 skill in fire arms then they can have a pretty decent pool. There's a really good chance that they're going to hit what theyre shooting at.

Which can really suck when you bring out the villain and think he's out of range, when in reality he's at max range, and they gun him down.

I cringed when I said.."-8 dice to your pool"..and they said..oh no problem that's still doable.

live and learn.

wow that really good advice, i was goign to put my firearm skill up high but since a 1 would be alright i'll keep it at that. Basically i want my character to reflect hunting once or twice a year (however much work can allow him).

In White Wolf a 2 is average. A 4 or 5 is Olympian or near human peak. However, the way they have their system set up is it better to max out a few key skills and then use experience to buy up the low ones as you play. And if the game features combat Dexterity becomes the most important stat so having a really high one makessa huge difference.

But remember starting caps on skills.

Also, Dexterity is important, but not hugely so (as it was in the old system). You need Wits for Defense, Composure for Initiative and Strength for close combat. Fighting Styles and other Merits can mitigate this somewhat.
