White Wolfs pay to play deal...

To me, that shows a distinct amount of Justin. Justin doesn't pull punches or hold back. There is a reason he's not liked by a lot of people, and loved a bunch of other people. If there was ever a rockstar of the RPG world, Justin is it. Trashing hotel rooms, getting into brawls with gamers and non-gamers alike, moshing into wedding parties at the dance club pissed out of his gourd, and partying with Peter Adkison until Peter gets up ont he table and starts table dancing while we someone starts slipping dollar bills into Peter's pants, and so on.

Nobody insulted him to start out with. They questioned the policy, Justin came in and started insulting them, and lying to them. Then someone who was actually supposed to speak for WW posted that yes, the bad interpretations of the license agreement were right (so Justin had been wrong all along) and they were going to work on fixing them.

Justin is pretty much the worst representative for any gaming company I've ever seen, and that includes that Dana Jorgensen guy who used to review products that directly competed with his own d20 firearms guides and give them bad reviews.

The funny thing is, they actually parody their bad customer service and their attitude towards their fans. Ever read Subsidiaries: A Guide to Pentex? The big book of the Evil Megacorp for Werewolf has White Wolf's alter ego of Black Dog games, with a lot of description of their horrible customer service, bitter and hostile "customer service" people, and a little comic of their employees literally shooting fanboys who annoy them, which just encourages and eggs the fans on more to their side.

I think to some people it's like the stereotypical snobbish resturant with lousy service, but you think they can afford to have such terrible service because their product is so good. That or they mistake hostility and rudeness for "telling it like it is" and get people to yell at them and they're thankful for it.

Hmmm... could be, I remembered it starting hostile and insulting from the get-go, before Justin even posted to the thread. But that could just be me messing with my memory and laughing at Justin's antics.

I can't dig through the thread in question however, because the server is being Sooooo slow @ RPGnet right now.

And this is actually the second attempt at licensing their LARPs, the first edition of the Vampire LARP (Masquerade) mentions it, and people grandly ignored it.

Me? I gave up on White Wolf with the relaunch of the World of Darkness. I (mostly) like the new fluff, and even feel that it is an improvement. But the system itself I find painful. Mind you I never bought their later games in the original WoD, but that was a matter of lack of interest.

Their license doesn't cover pizzas. It only covers where the GM charges a fee to play the game. So pizza wouldn't be part of it. Nor are convention fees an issue either, unless the convention fee is specific to this one game.

Notice that even if you all chiped in for pizza or something you would have to have the game liscensed.

Ditto. My entire gaming group has decided to stay with WoD 1.2.

I read some of the thread in RPGnet. Like most internet arguments, Justin would have come off a lot better if he just didn't respond to anything else after his first post. it quickly degenerated to the point I stopped reading.

(re Justin) moshing into wedding parties at the dance club pissed out of his gourd,

My bad, I have been reminded by my companions at the time that it was I that was moshing into the wedding party, while Justin fed me more alcohol and encouraged it.

Needless to say, he's a blast to party with until he decides to start hitting you. And if you like a good row, then he's still a blast to party with.

But you won't find me throwing insults at him without expecting him to throw them right back at me, and probably go to blows over it.

:)

The problem with Achilli (whose work I used to like) is that he will strike at any "insult" real or imaginary. He will piss on fans in the most egotistical manner possible, and has the habit of answering around an issue with insults and just wrong information. If you ask a question he doesn't like, he'll flame you and yell and rant, but doesn't address the question most of the time.

Are there any organizations out there that create LARPs for a living? What I mean is, why would anyone organize a LARP and then charge more than the costs of recouping what they spent organizing it? To me, that sound like someone's taking advantage of others wanting to have fun LARPing. Those someones are the only people this new licensing program applies to.

I can see if someone put a lot of work into a game, that they could pocket a little bit for their efforts. If it's worth it to the players, then they pay for it.

The thing with a license like this, is it WILL come from the players. If someone was making X amount before, and no needs to obtain a license costing Y, they will simply collect X+Y now.

Plus, the fact every player needs to be a member seems harsh.
