Who are the most inventive game designers?

I would echo the nominations for Jonathan Tweet (Over the Edge, D&D 3e), Robin D Laws (Over the Edge, Feng Shui), Monte Cook (Planescape, D&D 3e, Eldritch Might, Arcana Unearthed) and Gary Gygax & Dave Arneson.

Echo those as well. All top notch, inventive and all around fantastic game designers.

If GW d20 is indicative of his work, then he is one of the worst designers in my book.

Somehow, I suspect Arthaus, not Bruce Baugh, for d20 GW going astray.

Arthaus. Feh. More like Outhaus! :)

I'm breaking the d20 only rule to wallow in my Unisystem fanboyism.

CJ Carella - Witchcraft, All Flesh Must Be Eaten (portions), Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

He shows a remarkable talent for shaping his game system onto whatever genre he is writing and making it appear as if it were the perfect thing for that game. The man can make combat modifiers interesting to read about as well.
