D&D 5E Who Are the Thri-Kreen?

Yeah, I've been converting 5e races to Level Up heritages for a while now, and one of the things I like to do is consolidate similar races into a larger heritage with several "heritage gift" options; bird folk that include aarakocra and kenku, for example. That approach would easily be able to accommodate several insect races under a similar umbrella.

I think it's easy enough to group Rastipedes and Xixchil into the Kreen. And for PCs who's origin is that were altered by the Xixchil, use the Simic Hybrids stats from Ravnica.
Xichil were pretty blatently always just weird space Kreen, but Rastipedes are their own thing
 

I don't remember them actually being major players. Was that in one of the supplements? I don't remember them being a big deal in the original box.
I definitely remember the "Empire of the Celestial Mantis" or similar being mentioned as one of the most ancient spelljamming peoples in one of the novels.
