I know this is a silly question, but is the con in Memphis, as in Memphis, TN?

I'm in north AL and might be able to head up there for it! :) Where do you live, alsih2o?

yes, sorry i didn't specify :) i sometimes forgot that the community here is so large, one of the downfalls of being a small-town guy.

i live about 20-30 minutes east of memphis, in oakland, fayette county. feel free to drop me an email to discuss getting together at/for the con, there have to be several ways for you to get here that go by me :)

Rober J Sawyer is one of the BEST sci-fi authors out there. He's Canadan, but his works are prevalant in the USA as well.
I would recommend reading something of his if you like speculative fiction. He typically starts with the real world, then strange events happen (an alien arrives, everyone has a vision of what they're doing 20 years in the future, and such), from which he writes on the possible human consequences. He also does a lot of research, so even if you don't like the story you're bound to learn something interesting anyway.

He's also a really good speaker. I was at a reading at University of Toronto a couple years ago where he and Charles deLint read, and even though I much prefer deLint's writing, Sawyer was a more captivating speaker.

Crud; I already bought my tickets to Egypt.

They have a little biogaphy page on the site somewhere, having foreseen the possibility that we wouldn't immediately recognize Mark Hamil's gardener's cousin's accountant.
