Who attends GenCon?

If WotC would be so kind as to move GenCon to Toronto, Montreal or even Vancouver, I'd by dying to go, but as things are, I have no more interest in crossing our southern border. Sucks, 'cause I really wanted to meet the EN World crew some day.

Your loss then. I had a good time last year - and expect to have a better one this year at Indy.

I've been going for the past 6 or 7 years. Just be prepared cause once you go you'll want to come back every year. It's a great time.

I've never been but would like to attend someday. Isn't there a GenCon UK or something? I'm moving to Italy in a little over a month and that would be something I'd be interested in.

I hadn't been to the big GenCon until 1993 or 1994 or so---I had always wanted to go to compare it to the smaller, regional shows (Origins, GenCon East, etc.) and to visit this event that I'd seen mentioned in TD, the back of the MM, etc., etc., for years and years.

I'll be attending this year. What's the scoop on the ENWorld ShadowCon---back in '04, folks printed up ENWorld namecard badges for attendees, which was fun to help ID other members at the show. Is this the next step of that--a con within a con?

Since hong seems to get so much enjoyment out of it, I thought I'd give it a try.

Gotta say, I still don't get it.

you need to go to Gen Con then.

I've been to Gen Con for the last three years and am returning this year. I'm co-running a game with FR novelist Erik Scott de Bie. We'll each be running half of the game - two parties pitted against each other. One party is a cooperation synergy party (bard, marshall, healer, dragon shaman, or similar characters) and the other party is more of a power hungry "me me me" group (warlock, spellthief, warmage, hexblade, and similar characters). We'll see which wins: power and maximization or cooperation, selflessness, and synergy.

Last year was my first year at Gencon and I loved it.
I'm going back this year. I just like the whole atmosphere.

It was like life...I met some good people, a few more eh people, a few bad people.
I was lucky enough to play some games under a really good GM.

I loved walking the dealer's room. I'm not a big fan of crowds and get social anxiety easily, but I took frequent "alone time" breaks and watched my personal space.
I also gamed in small events so I was only exposed to a few new people at a time.

I was able to speak with a number of my favorite companies and pick up good deals too.

I'd prefer the Con was in a less hot humid month, like December and it was in...oh, Buffalo :)

Although I've always wanted to go since the 80's, this will be my first year because a game I helped with is coming out and I decided I'd better just experience it once at least. I expect to try and meet as many people and possible at the stealth con to put faces to enworld icons.

I go regularly, and I go primarily for the EN World Stealth Con.

It is--in nearly every way I can imagine--better than the Con it parasticially infects:)

Game quality, Personalities, Parties, Excursions...all well above the bar set by Gen Con proper.
What he said!

I used to go for RPGA games. When their classic games stopped, I found that EN worlders are generally superb DMs and run the exact kind of games I prefer. I now never buy individual event tickets; I go to see people, laugh, and game with friends from here.
