- Acquaintance (friend of the the two friends immediately above)

Friends, and Friends of Friends. Occasionally answered an ad in a gamer's store. Made friends that way. Joined a university gamer's club. Made friends that way too.

I'd be bewildered at anyone who doesn't answer "Friends", with the exception of those who picked family. Surely most of them are subsets of friends?

I mean - that's the point, right? Playing fun games with your friends?

I can see aberrant answers for those who only get a chance to play at conventions or other places with pick up games.

Well, only one of my current players was a friend of mine before we started roleplaying together. I got to know most of them more or less by accident, because I cannot stop myself from talking about rpgs in public places

In our area there are lots of players looking for DMs or people interested in giving it a try who simply don't know anyone playing rpgs. So that's how I initially recruited many.

The rest are friends or spouses of other players.
