Sorry if it seems nitpicky, I was just wondering who Marc Aurel was for a minute.

Also, not nitpicky. Being generally fluent in Latin, I know his Latin name but I'm just used to referring to him this way - it's just something we do here in Vienna. There's a "Marc Aurel street," for example. And a hotel by this name. Etc. (Roman emperor + a city with with many tourist visitors = lots of places named after him.)

Actually, if gamers get together as a result of this thread, that'd be about as positive result as I could hope for . There is the Gamer's Seeking Gamers forum for that of course, but this forum obviously gets to a wider audience.

Russians actually do the same with Latin and Greek names (chopping off the ending--I suspect Marc Aurel is how the name is said in Russian as well). I've had a number of discussions of classical history and authors and we often get bogged down on names.

I think pretty much anybody does the same, especially romance countries. For us in Italy, for example, it's Marco Aurelio.
