Who is going to SoCal GenCon?

Anaheim is nowhere near Silicon Valley. S.V. is up by San Jose, sort of near San Francisco

Edit: Actually, now I see that you live in Orange County, you probably know that and are just talking about it being a lot closer to Silicon Valley than GenCon Indy. Sorry. :(

And just as an FYI, a decent chunk of the video game industry is in the LA area.

I'm glad I'm not the only one with such concerns. The electronic gaming angle is interesting... it's nice we may get something Indy didn't, rather than just the scraps of the Midwest, but it wouldn't be my first choice (I wanna see the ENnies! :) )

I'm still not sold that GenCon SoCal will be up to normal GenCon standards. And with the horror stories of Indy still ringing in my ears, I'm also worried about this being GenCon LLC's first time in Anaheim...

Or how about LARPing? The Hollywood angle with the movie studios, the props and costumes, the Disneyland characters... It seems it could be just the place for those people who enjoy living their roles...;)

Could be quite the place to sell "unique clothing items and costumes"...

I would guess that there isn't any more of that then you would get in the rest of the country... (world?)

It's just that the climate here is very nice...

So it can be done outside more often.

LARPing I mean...

We are talking about LARPing... RIGHT?

I'll be there, as will likely a couple of pals. A 6-hour drive is reasonable if it both saves on airfare and leaves me with a car while in town.

I think I saw him on the front page of the LA times with all of the other canidates on Sunday:)

Seriously though it would be nice to get some PR going for what could become the major gaming event on the west coast if it is done right.

The Electronic Game angle could work as there are CRPG related names like Black-Isle, Troika ( Temple of Elemental Evil) and Blizzard all less than 30 minutes from the convention center. That is not to even mention some of the other heavy hitters within a slightly larger radius like EA, Activision and Verant.

$50 plus 1.50 per hour of gaming?!?

Well after being out of town for a few days I got a chance to check out the reg site for SoCal GenCon and was amazed at the prices they are charging.

They want $50 (pre-reg) for 4 days, and then to pay for each and every game you play in? Thats insane! (IMHO) So figure $50 to get in and 8 hours of gaming each day (which is about half what I normally do) = $75 not including hotel & food.

I have been attending cons for 10 plus years in Ca & Tx inculding Orgins and have never paid that much.

Currently I usually attend DunDraCon in the Bay Area and at least one of the others in the area during the year. For these I pay at most $40 for all 4 day and don't pay anything additional for the games.

Are the other events they have going on really worth paying almost twice as much? Or am I the one thats out of it here.

On top of that, with everything I read about the years GenCon, I have to wonder if it will be worth it.

Disscussion would be appreciated. :D

Also I have a few questions for those that are in the know...

1. What are the hours of the convention? Will gaming areas be open the entire duration of the con, IE 24 hours a day?

2. What is the longest slot you can set up for a con sponsered game?

Edit to add ?'s about con.
