Who is going to SoCal GenCon?

I might try and go. We still have our annual passes to Disneyland through the end of the year. I could drop off the wife and kid there and head over to the con (heck, walk over) I will have to see what my schedule looks like.

I'm hoping it gets the full GenCon treatment... I mean, heck, we aren't gonna see ENnies, I doubt Morrus will hop the Pond again (though if he did, he could also hop the Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim, home of the Mighty Ducks :p ), lotsa vendors and fans may have blown their Con budget already, etc. I just guess I'm worried GenCon SoCal will be an inferior shadow of the Midwest original.

GenCon starts taking registrations on August 8th... I hope they'll have SOME info about what'll be going on by then.

I hope to be able to go for at least some of it. right now it looks like I'll be getting a job that will likely keep me away during the weekdays, btu I should be able to drive down for the weekend...I hope.

I'd love to go, but it's during school. And whatever money I make in between now and December has to go toward paying for E3 next May.

...........and, BUMP!

I'm still worried about Gen Con SoCal not getting any love. The registration window has been pushed back, and the official website still doesn't have any real info on it about who'll be there or anything.

I'll be there, and I might even schedule a lecture on "RP Gaming Law School 101" for gaming companies and freelancers.

Me too! There was a post on RPGnet a week or so back, where Matt Colville was speaking about attendance expectations. IIRC, 4000 attendees is the breakeven point; 6000 is Peter & Co's "happy number." 8000-10,000 is an amazing success.

GenCon Indy did something like 25,000+. Origins traditionally does around 8000, although attendance has grown drastically to something around 12,000. OTOH, the local SoCal conventions, run by Strategicon, don't break 2000 attendees. (Caveat: these numbers are gathered purely through rumor; they may have no actual resemblence to reality.) ;)

I haven't seen much promoting GenCon here. I didn't notice any fliers at the last Strategicon nor at San Diego Comic-con. I haven't seen any announcements at any of my local game stores. Word of mouth hasn't been impressive; I'm the only person that ever brings up the topic to my gaming groups and local retailers. I'm starting to feel like a shill.

Moreover, I haven't heard much from attending Gaming companies. Green Ronin will be there, hurray!! I imagine AEG will be there, since they're local. Who else? It isn't GenCon if the companies aren't there, IMO.

Well, that's enough ranting for now. Thanks for your patience.
