Who is going to SoCal GenCon?

I will definitely make an effort. My classes end on December 12, but I should be done with finals on the 10th. From Cal Poly Pomona is a short drive from Anihiem, so I'll get a hotel that weekend and then make my way back home to San Diego for Christmas. Great way to kick off the winter break.

Right now there is a slight chance me and suzi will go to socal GenCon. Depends on financial situation, whether or not we can be VIPs :), and on how much work we have done for the next book.

It would be nice to go and play some games. Indy was all work and meeting people. The work part was ok, the meeting people part was awesome, but I wish I would have played a game or attended a seminar or two.

We'll have to wait and see...

Oh I'm definately going. Flying there from San Francisco Wednesday evening and coming back Sunday afternoon. Must arrange a way for us to meet and recognize eachother. Maybe there are still some ENWorld t-shirts left? Definately have to pre-register to avoid the long-line disaster of GenCon Indy.

My only concern is about exhibitor attendance. I expect for it to have less people than GenCon Indy since it's SoCal's first big convention and most companies and authors and exhibitors and publishers must have spent most of their con buget at Indy but I hope that at least the most important of them still have some money left to make an apperance at SoCal.

It will be interesting to see the impact if any of having it so close to Hollywood. The West Coast needed a big con and I'm very happy we get to have our own GenCon.

For those worried about the drive up from San Diego to Anaheim. San Diego and Orange Counties run commuter rail for a reasonable fee. Last I heard, they also had a cooperation agreement where by you could transfer from one to the other.

Where accomodations are concerned, Anaheim is home to Disneyland, and there are tons of cheap rooms around that attraction. Where the convention center is from that I haven't the foggiest, but somebody should be able to clue us in.

Well, standard rate from Amtrak is $34 round trip from the San Deigo station (downtown), or $26 from Solana Beach (roughly the same distance from my place, but somewhat more convenient for other reasons, like free long-term parking at the station). So the question becomes whether avoiding traffic is worth the inconvenience of not having a car.

Their map suggests the convention center is only a few blocks from Disneyland, FWIW.

If there are restaurants and hotels within walking distance of the convention center then its no inconvenience. My friends and I are hoping to take the train up from San Diego. It would be a lot of fun to be able to sit around and b.s. on the trip.
