Who is houseruling 3.5 changes before they try them?

Are you house ruling any of the 3.5 rules changes right off the bat?

  • No, my group is going to try them "as-is", at least for a while.

  • Yes! I really don't like some of the changes, and will be modifying them right off the bat.

  • I hate the idea of 3.5, and am not using any of the new rules.

The game we're running now is sort of a blend between Modern d20 and Wheel of Time's rules. I suspect there'll be quite a few 3.5e rules that will be folded in as they supplant the existing ones in Md20 and WoT. However the biggest (potential) change will come with Arcana Unearthed which I'm quite digging right now...

There are a few 3.5 changes that won't make it over (at least, not unaltered) - eg. the new DR rules (me no like), Block Arrows (I'll incorporate weapons deflects as well), Flame Arrow (transmutation? I don't think so...), etc.

We'll probably be incorporating house rules from the beginning.

1. We'll probably modify the ranger over to 3.5, but stick with giving it bonus feats rather than a particular combat style at equivalent levels.

2. Not real sure on the Paladin summoning mount. Probably will only allow it for celestial mounts, but a few players in my campaign intend to ride dragons, and I don't think I will allow them to summon their dragon mounts. This idea seemed a little too video gamish to me anyhow.

3. I'll probably do away with #/alignment DR because I don't like implication and I'll probably eliminate the material requirement to punch through golem DR. I feel some creatures should just be hard to hurt as a feature rather than always giving an option to punch through their DR.

4. Hold spells I will test, and if they become useless save for a coordinated CDG, then they will go back to the old way where only a single save is allowed.

5. We will keep our house ruled sorcerer but incorporate in the spell changing.

6. I may keep the 3rd edition scrying rules because I don't like the idea of giving someone a will save for divination spells. It isn't consistent with other divination spells nor does it seem to have a story reason for scrying working in such a manner. I would rather have had them put in more scrying counter spells than simply give a will save.

Other than that, I am very wait and see about 3.5.

Unfortunately I just moved and the only group I have been able to find are pretty new to DnD in general. So I wont be introducing the 3.5 rules just yet because I dont want to confuse them.

The only rule that I know I will be changing is the square base for all critters. For some, yeah, okay, no problem, but I think that other critters should stay 'long', because they really make more sense that way.

Otherwise I am liking most of the changes, or at least neutral.

The square base is, I believe, intended to represent the area a creature controls in combat, not it's actual size. For example, horses are long (5' x 10') but will control a 10' x 10' space in combat, to represent the area they would need to turn around, whirl, buck, kick, etc. Makes sense to me.

[edit: i rite gud]
