Who is Shadrach

Wasn't Shadrach the Castrator an npc from Arduin Grimoire?

In the gamebook The Seven Serpents (part of the Sorcery! line), there's a character called Shadrach.

I own this from the original eighties sorcery! system one, I didn't remember there is a Shadrach in it. Who is he?

You might be thinking of "Shagrat," the Orc in Cirith Ungol who got away with Frodo's mail-shirt.

I think that is who I was thinking of, I listened to a very good unabridged audio book of the trilogy a few years ago and this sounds right with the mental associations I was coming up with as I was thinking about the name. I knew it was some minor dark character in something, and I kept thinking Grima wyrmtongue but knew that was not him.

True: he didn't eat the non-kosher food.
True: He was thrown into the furnace and survived.

However, he was not thrown in the furnace because he didn't eat the food. He was thrown in the furnace because he refused to bow down and worship a statue of Nebuchadnezzer.

Uhh... I think double checking biblical allusions is OK. I mean we arn't discussing religion, so much as doulbe checking minor characters in religious books.

IIRC, a hermit who allows your character to rest the night in his cave. He is later killed, but manages to send his spirit to animate a bunch of trees that give your character a message.
