Who owns Paranoia? Mini-game would be cool...

I'd love to see a return of Paranoia (especially these days, with munchkins, min/maxers, and rules lawyers running rampant, it seems). However, I would not want to see it in a D20 version. D20, as good as it is, just would not be able to handle the chaos that is Paranoia. It'd be best to leave it in its own ruleset (which was perfect for the job at hand) and in the classic setting, mind you.

As we all know, everyone loves Paranoia.

How do we know this, citizen?

Because Our Friend the Computer told us so!

I've always thought that Paranoia would be an excelent game to play by post, or by email. I've never really taken part in a PBM game, though I've kept up with a few.

It seems to me though, that if there were a single game written perfectly for that method of play it would be Paranoia. Simple rules, lots of chances for selling out your comrades... Perfect! In a regular, face-to-face game it's usually obvious when someone sells you out. But a PBM game would preserve the mystery! Man, the more I think about it, the more excited I get!

So, I have two questions:

1) Would anyone else be interested in such a game?

2) If so, how would a first-time PBM GM (but very experienced Paranoia GM!) go about setting something like this up?

Thanks for your feedback!!

Happiness is Manditory. Are you happy, Citizen?

I'd be interested, though my recollection of the rules is faint. For Play By Post games I highly recomment www.playbyweb.com or www.rpol.net . Both are excellent, and offer all the stuff you need to play :)

It would definitely take a lot of square-pegs-in-round-holes mayhem to make Paranoia fit in D20, but it would make it infinitely more accessable and especially if it was a poly minigame. Wheeee! A reprint under original rules would be best tho imho :D

I would love to play in a Play by Post Paranoia game.

I have all editions of Paranoia. Loved it when I was in Jr. High.

The last edition is the one you want to stay away from. I think it's called Paranoia: Fifth Edition. Not as good as the others.

Oh, no doubt! I did fiddle with that back when it first came out, but decided that I really thought it sucked. It will be Second Edition all the way! And pre-Whoops too. I never really liked that post-Whoops crap. :)

I'm investigating Emiricol's suggestions for facilitating the game now. It looks very promising!

I would be very interested in playing in a game, though I've only played it twice and don't have/remember most of the rules. I do however have webspace that I could let you use, offering you multiple forums, pm capabilities, private/hidden forums and such plus the possibility of other things you might want/need to make it happen right. If you are interested, and we have enough people, let me know at yangnome at yangnome.com (Change the " at " to "@"

Paranoia D20 could work if everyone plays a commoner... :D

Hmmmm.

Class: Citizen
Hit Dice: d2

L Title
1 Infrared
2 Red
3 Orange
4 Yellow
5 Green
6 Blue
7 Indigo
8 Violet
9 Ultraviolet

Class: Secret Society
Hit Dice: d2
L Title
1 Intitiate/Commie/Psion/Whatever
... etc ...

What one could do is make advancement in the "Citizen" class dependent on pre-requisites. But you couldn't meet the pre-requisites unless you gain a level in some other class and the only other classes available are the secret society classes.

Oh, and of course all energy weapons would do around 5d6 points of damage.

All the above information is classified to clearance level ULTRAVIOLET. If you are not ULTRAVIOLET you have committed treason. Please go to the nearest auto-termination chamber for summary execution.

Have a nice daycycle!
