Who said the Jedi were celibate? Or even chaste?

Jedi have to love _everybody_; that's what compassion is about. They shouldn't feel _desire_, because desire is the cause of suffering.

Yeah, I totally agree with that.

"Desire and wanting cause discontent,
whilst he who knows sufficiency
more easily has what he requires."

I'd say that a Jedi who fell in love could probably marry, and retire to some nice, safe, quiet place to be with his beloved, and leave the dangerous missions to the bachelors.

Ex-jedi are an issue that hasn't really been addressed, except for Count Dooku, and he's something of a wild card.

Hmmm.....id say that jedi are allowed to leave the order...and then marry, or have kids. how do you expect dooku got out of the order? there has to be SOME way to leave....

I haven't read the novel, but there was a scene in the movie that was later cut that explained how Dooku was one of only 20 Jedi who ever left the order. Ever.

Not so common then.

They have to be chaste, otherwise all heck would break loose as soon as the first hot young padawan chick came along.

First off Agback dont knock the movie until you have watched it (hint it was as close to the orriginals as we will ever get in the area of coolness)

WARNING SPOILER

In the movie it is stated by Anakin that Jedi Discourage attachment ,but encourage compassion (which the amourous little Vader uses as a pick up line on the Queen/ now senator

However, (and for those of you who are fanatical about using only Canon Star wars, sorry about this) In I,Jedi Corran Horn learns that Correllian Jedi had a habit of getting married no matter what the Jedi Counsel on Coruscant felt. Lastly as far as the Extended universe goes (and it is used in the new edition of the book) Luke marries Mara Jade.

My argument is thanks to Lucas to be a Jedi you must have the Mediclorrians (spelled wrong I am sure) in your blood, Which means that unless your a freak like Vader, oops Anakin you have to be born into a Jedi family. So it would be self defeating for a jedi to not marry or at least not be amourous. To me the honor of the Jedi would almost obligate them to marriage instead of sleeping around.

And to further this we go again to Corran Horn his true grandfather Nejaa Halcyon was a Jedi taught his son Valin Halcyon/ Horn the ways of a jedi but then died in the Clone wars.

This also brings up a Jedi inherent problem all Pure blooded Jedi are prone to diseases. Jk but seriously Corran like his grandfather is unable to use Telekonesis but instead has the force mind altering skill, and the Ability to soak energy (even that of a Lightsaber.

I'm not sure you can say this anymore. It seems that Lucas has moved away from the idea of genetic Jedi. Luke is the only canonical Jedi to be born of Jedi parents; all the other Jedi have been removed from their families. I don't really know what Lucas is thinking but that's how it is. Jedi-ism seems to be very rare in all species. This isn't something that would happen in a genetic-jedi scheme.

Perhaps Luke and Leia are the freaks, not Vader. It might be bad for Jedi to have children , thus the forbiddence from marrying (In Lucas's PG world, there is no sex outside of marriage). This could be one reason why Jedi are gradually losing their power.

No, he directly brings the force into balence by killing the emporer.

Why? Why is sex so bad? There's lots of it on our world, and it hasn't blown up yet. I just don't understand why Jedi can't "do it".

Well, there's the overwhelming emotions often associated with sex. In humans, sex might be discouraged to discourage the emotions involved. Only explanation I can think of.

I'm not knocking it. I'm just saying that I'm not going to pay money to watch another movie by the creative team that brought us Jar-Jar Binks, the Virgin Birth of Darth Vader, midichlorians, an idiotic Jedi Council, and the pod-race.

Really? Where does it say that midichlorians are hereditary?

Regards,

Agback
