Who said the Jedi were celibate? Or even chaste?

No, he directly brings the force into balence by killing the emporer

That hardly brings the Force into balance. It knocks out the dark side and restores the preponderance of the Jedi.

The Force has been out of whack, with 10,000 light-side Jedi against only 2 dark-side Sith, for centuries. Anakin restores the balance by killing 9,998 Jedi. That leaves two (Kenobi and Yoda) against two (Sidious and Vader): balance.

The Jedi was pretty dense to think that, seeing that they were on top, restoring the balance would be a good thing.

"Balance" of the force doesn't mean equal number of Jedi v. Sith. In AOTC, the Dark Side is clearly more powerful than the Light Side (hence, Yoda's lack of vision). Balance fixes this.

Well, there's the overwhelming emotions often associated with sex. In humans, sex might be discouraged to discourage the emotions involved. Only explanation I can think of.

That makes sense, but it begs the question, "What's so bad about emotions?" I never had the impression that Jedi were Vulcans. ;)

I think I figured it out yesterday. Jedi can engage in intimate encounters without any emotional attachment by using their Mind Trick to simply erase the memory of their partner.

Notice how Qui-Gon was not at all impressed with Shmi's "I woke up and I was pregnant" story. He was probably thinking to himself, "Great, more Jedi hitting the outer rim for R&R. I'll have to talk to Yoda about this."

They certainly have the power ....
