From a business perspective, it'd probably be a more viable option for release on a handheld system, where less than state-of-art graphics are considered more acceptable.

I just recently tried playing Pool of Radiance through a C64 emulator on my treo, but that turned out to be more trouble than it was worth (too slow and buggy.)
The idea you could emulate a C64 on a cell phone amuses me :D

I would like a re-worked Pool series--but I don't think I'd want to preserve the old-school 16 color stuff. It wouldn't need to be a full 3D-rendered 1080p surrond sound extravaganza to be fun though.

The biggest problem I can see with that series is that Secret of the Silver Blades was numbingly boring; that whole module would need rework (especially the endless treks through that damn glacier!). The 4th entry (Pools of Darkness?) I could never get into; it would likely need rewriting as well. The first two were quite well done IMO.

As far as I know, the OGL doesn't apply to software, and I am skeptical the 4e equivalent will change one bit in this respect.

That said, I'd be up for a classical CRPG, but more in the vein of Wizardry VII. if possible.
