Somehow I have trouble imagining The Rock as a dignified Southern soldier/adventurer. He'd just yell "Me kill stuff" and turn it into a Conan story.

I think you're selling the Rock short. He was fantastic in Be Cool. Actually, he and Cedric the Entertainer were the best characters in the movie...

I'll go for Bale with a side of Jolie...

Actually, I think that would be a good combo for the film. Bale has already shown his stuff well as Batman (just give him a sword and a radium pistol). Meanwhile Angelina is just zaftig enough to really pull the part off well. Most actresses would be too scrawny looking for pull of Deja right.

I would go Senerinty cast first: Nathan Fillion (Mal) I think would pull off a John Carter and as much as I would like to see Salma in the role of Deja Thoris I think Morena Bacearin (sp) could do the role justice.

Second choice would be Ben Bowder (Farscape/SG-1) as John Carter and Lacy Cabert in the roles.
