Who's going to Gen Con?

Wow, that would be a ruff drive. I think i'm going to go with either train or plane.

Thanks for the info, Dave!:D

Of course, for me it would be a 35 hour drive (according to MapQuest), and, well, I've got a limited supply of vacation time. I go to Ohio 3-4 times a year to visit friends and family, but conventions are a bit much. Maybe Adkinson will move GenCon to somewhere on the west coast, where it's convenient :)

I'll be there! I'm torn between defending my title or Judging. I would definately Judge if I didn't alreeady have the badge and room in the Hilton.

PirateCat - for future reference how rough is the Judging to get into. Can you count on getting accepted and a room in the Hyatt if you apply. If so how early does the RPGA take judges and how do you generally get more involved.

Thanks -

My original gaming group consisting of me, Fayredeth, and friend Nathan who doesn't come to these boards, and my mom are going for 2-4 days, we're not quite sure for how long though. My mom is unconcerned about rooms because she managed to get some at the last minute last year--at the HILTON! I'm still convinced that she offed someone to get the rooms. My momma loves me and my friends very berry much, LOL.

Most of my new gaming group is interested in going too, though, so that could be very fun. The two girls of the group really want to go, so maybe they can carpool up there and just stay for a day...and we could probably smuggle an extra person into one of our rooms--that's where we'd put Sticks, our third player addition to the game. (he has a real name, but no one cares about that...LOL)

Well I'm off to GenCon this year too...
First GenCon and first time in the States too, so be gentle with me, buy me lots of beer to calm my nerves.., though may not be best, had to seel my kidneys to afford the air fares...
I'll be there with the Thunderhead bosses, so give me a wave.. :)

99% chance I'll be there. Still organising it, so I don't know when exactly. But it'll probably only be for one day given that it's my first visit to the US and I'll want to try and see some other things while I'm there.

Besides, I intend to kidnap Eric and Piratecat, bring them back to England and hold them to ransom. We'll see how the RPGA does without their "DM of the year"!

Ok I'm sort of oganising a trip to Gen Con for myself and some friends. The problem is this is the first time any of us have gone.

I'm sure a lot of folks here have been and i was hoping for some advice on argements.

Also I was wondering if we'll be seeing any fellow EN Worlders at the Con.

I'll be there. :)

There was a thread a little bit ago that had some good advice-

Advice -

Sign up now, the rooms near are more than likely gone.

Don't take every book you own!

Take the time to walk around to know where everything is. Do not take money into the dealer room the first time in, just walk and look, see what is interesting and TALK to the dealers. Buy your items the next time you enter the dealer room. If you wait to the end of the con you sometimes get better deals (sometimes).

If you can find it at your local game store don't buy it at the con, unless you have to have it and you get a good deal. Everything you buy you have to take home, with a few friends doing the same, you fill up a car fast.:)

Have fun.

Water bottle.

Good shoes.

Have fun.

Meet people.

I'm going to try to get there this year! Actually, I've never been to Gen Con. Although I go to many science fiction cons, gaming-only cons never seem as much fun for me... But this year, hopefully I'll be able to go. I'll know after I start my job this summer whether I can pull it off.
