Hello all. The title is pretty self explanatory. For some reason, I thought that it might be interesting to find out who was your favorite Villain from any form of media and why. Videogames, books, manga, the news, Rpgchat, whatever you want, just give a reason. I know I'm gonna hear the usuals, (Sephiroth, Hitler, Satan) but I'm hoping that I'll hear some out of the ordinary ones too.

I'll go first:

My current favorite villain is the badguy from the movie Kung Fu Panda. I really enjoyed watching the ruthless snow leopard Tai Lung for several reasons, the first being I sypathised with him. Here is this guy, been training in martial arts his entire life in preperation to be named the local hero, the Dragon Warrior. His unrelenting master, Shifu, trained him from dawn to dusk, every damn day, from childhood, to be the strongest, the most skilled, to be the best. So upon reaching adulthood, fully expecting to be named the Dragon Warrior, Tai lung is outraged to learn that his teacher's master Oogway(SP?) says that there is darkness in him and he isn't worthy of the Secrets of the Dragon Scroll, the inheritence of the Dragon warrior.

ISN"T WORTHY?!

He trained HIS WHOLE LIFE, only to be denied at his moment of triumph.

Wouldn't YOU be pissed?

Then after attempting to take the Scroll by force and being defeated by Oogway, he is imprisoned for LIFE in Chorgum Prison. I mean come on, LIFE?! The guy did a bad thing, going crazy on the villagers like that, but to imprison him for the rest of his life for it seems more than a little harsh. And in that mean ass rack thing they had him in? He was in that torture device for twenty years for goodness sake!

The second reason I liked Tai lung, was that he was unrepentant of his crimes and was determined to have his vengeance, even after Shifu admitted his mistakes and asked for his forgiveness. I mean, if you're gonna be bad, go all out, no excuses, no apologies.

"I don't want your apologies. I want my Scroll!"

Magneto from X-Men. The whole life story of his, living through the Holocaust, the scars he bore as a result, the fact that him and Charles were at odds on their ideologies but still spoke to each other. His pure power level as well made him quite the foe to challenge an entire team of mutants.

I haven't followed comics in forever, so he may be totally different, but back around the time he pulled wolverine's skeleton out of his pores...badass...

My wife! no uhhh seriously I would say Lord Soth. I still remember the summer nights I spent reading about him in the Chronicles. To this day I have a reoccurring dream that him and some draconians attack our camp and Im Sturm but I just cant defeat him....No seriously baby it was a joke Lord Soth is my favorite Villain, promise

I personally find two-dimensional, raving, complete monster villians to be no fun.

Give me complex, intelligent, scheming, unflappable, chessmaster, affably evil villians any day

This!

But to add to it --
A villain whose motives you can sympathize with and/or understand. (as well as being complex, intelligence, scheming, etc...)

David Xanatos from Gargoyles.

Perfect example!
Though, I have to say, Demona is another fun one from that series though she does edge more towards the raving lunatic rather than scheming, she just has many layers of lunatic mixed in with an interesting backstory.

weem. That guy is kicking all our butts around here.
