Why are the tactical maps skewed in the 'Expedition To' books?

A majority of the maps are canted at an angle on the pages. Instead of being in a column format, they are rotated 10-20 degrees on the page.

What do you mean by skewed?

The picture of the map is tilted at an angle. I think it is just to be more visually appealing and nothing more than that.

It doesnt prevent scanning because you can just rotate it with any editing tool that if you have a scanner.

It make it a bit more of a hassle but I dont believe that has anything to do with it.

I don't know about the others, but the Ravenloft maps were originally like that; I think they were in fact the first to be done like that. They were done like that because a real castle (unlike the simplistic squares and occassional tower that populate almost all the modules) has complex architecture that can really only be shown in the manner Ravenloft uses.

Nothing at all would prevent you from photocopying it, anyway. That ship sailed decades ago.

I think it's just to better show the detail on some of the pieces, and it looks nicer.

Copying means nothing really since the odds of being able to blow the pieces up large enough to use as a battlemat of any sort is probably minimal.

No, no, he ain't talking about the location maps in the castle description (which are done in the manner of the original I6 adventure, but rather the Tactical Encounter maps in the yellow pages.

The reason for that is just to give "movement" to the page.

Nothing that a scanner and an image editing software won't cure (and you'd need those anyway to erase the monster locations from them).

It's for the same reason, why people tilt their guns 90° in the movies... it's cool, man!

Note: Don't try that with your crossbow!
