Why are they stopping at level 30?

36 seemed too arbitrary?
Heh, I cut my teeth on the BECMI series of D&D boxed sets, so a level cap of 36 sounds pretty cool to me! Four tiers of 9 levels, and 9 is a magic number too . . . .

But I guess I'll be okay with a mere 30 levels. ;)

. . . Personally, if I'd run a 3e Epic game, I probably would have stopped somewhere around levels 25 or 30, so players could get a taste of Epic power before it just totally fell apart . . . The level 30 cap might be based on a precedent in the 2e High Level Campaigns book. That book strongly suggested a cap of level 30 . . .
While the 3rd Ed Epic rules did allow for unlimited advancement, they only gave us epic prestige classes with interesting abilities that capped out at 30. Well, the prestige classes had 10 levels, but add them to your 20 non-epic levels for a cap of 30 before the horrid cyclic repeating crap kicked in.

I imagine that plays a part as well.
