Why Are Warrior Women Never Ugly?

Its called fantasy, wether good or bad. Beauty and unblemished heroes and heroines are the epitome of good, while scarred, squat and ugly is a sign of evil or unwholesomeness.

Its not something to get hung up on.

The only rationalization is that all those curing spells not only remove scarring, but also cellulite etc.

You don't suppose that all the running around and dodging monsters might do something to keep you trim?

A better question - why are female heroes NEVER squat, muscly brutes?

Somehow the cover of one of the 1e slaver modules instantly popped into my head at this question. It had a female dwarf fighter with heavy armor and big muscles swinging a war hammer at some insect beastie. She had long flowing . . . beard hair. IIRC her name was Freda and she was one of the sample PCs provided.

I can't think of any series where the main "tank" warrior was a woman and the main spellcaster was a man.

Well, it's an anime series, but there's Rune Soldier. The main tank is a fit, but rather ... large ... woman, and the party wizard is a man.

Look at the depiction of the adventurers from my old "The Oath" campaign.

The female elven thief while considered beautiful by the standards of her people, was androgynous (bordering on boyish), the wizard and priestess in the wagon are both overweight, the priestess was homely and the wizard was middle-aged and balding.

The dwarf was ugly, with tattoos and piercings all over his face and nasty scars where his eye once was.

Only the warrior-priest riding along side was truly traditionally handsome.

She wasnt exactly an ugly woman though. And what about the other two girls?

It's not a bad series though. And I want to base a character on Louis at some point. He wont be the BEST sorceror, but I doubt people will forget him.

On another subject, The Warcraft series has some fugly women. Granted, they're not human and have pretty shapely bodies anyways, but there ya go.

Yep, it all comes down to two words. It has nothing to do with heroes are more physically fit, or women are faster and don't take damage in order to get scares, or magic removes said scars. Nope, two words:

Sex sells.

Fat Dragon Games would NEVER put a shapely female on the cover of our products just to sell them! :D

A while ago I got flak over at the WotC boards for my rendition of a female shifter druid (see below), just because I opted to give her shorter-than-supermodel legs, with some saying her anatomy was all wrong. But the shifter isn't human! As long as the anatomy is consistent with itself, I don't have to follow the heroic ideal of art (eight-and-a-half heads tall, long legs, etc). When I countered with how her body was in proportion with that of Catalina Ponor (gold-medal Olympic gymnast), the discussion kinda died.

This picture rocks. Just wanted to go on the record with that. :)

I finally figured it out. She must be wearing GLAMOURED armor, so it only looks like a napkin and strap of leather. She's actually wearing full chain mail!
