Why Are Warrior Women Never Ugly?

If I were a sucessful warrior or wizard or something, I would certainly be tempted to slip the portrait artist a few gold to "make me look good".

The most "ugly" (i.e. lean, muscular and man-like, even in the face) woman I've ever seen depicted as a she-warrior was Grace Jones as Zula, in the movie, Conan the Destroyer.

She wasnt exactly an ugly woman though. And what about the other two girls?

Well, okay, the priestess was total cheesecake, but the rogue was hardly your stereotypical buxom fantasy babe, was she? Total tomboy. :)

It's not a bad series though. And I want to base a character on Louis at some point. He wont be the BEST sorceror, but I doubt people will forget him.

Improved Unarmed Strike, here we come! :D

Ditto for romance novel covers. When was the last time you saw two ugly people on the cover of one of those?

Why do magazine covers feature women who are lithe, flawless beauties with perfect skin and sexy clothing, or shirtless men with big, cut muscles?

As for playing ugly characters, I know a few people who have specified that, but most people I know like to say their characters are better than average looking. Hey, its a fantasy role playing game, why not?

No you not.... ;)

The real mystery, though, is why the people in the Book of Erotic Fantasy had such badly-applied make-up. (Mind you, I only saw the teaser at GenCon 03. I have no idea how the actual book turned out)

I'm reminded how ashamed of myself and my hobby every time I see a booth babe.
