Why are you still here?

Call it curiosity. For those of you who have stated that you will not ever buy 4th Edition. Why are you still here? I don't mean on ENWorld, just the 4th Edition subforum.

There might be something worth salvaging, or interesting enough to make me change my mind, though so far, I don't see how this could possibly ever happen.

It is also interesting from a business and sociological perspective to see who buys into what marketing arguments.

Oh, it also allows me to sort out between people that can have a polite and civile discussion, and the ones with immature and destructive behaviour that I want to add to my ignore list (on both sides).

I don't put myself in that camp exactly, but...

... not switching doesn't mean I'm not interested, academically, in what happens with the new edition. And that means I am interested in discussing and reading discussions.

... part of me somehow hopes maybe I will be swayed or I will see something that makes me go "yipee"

... even if I don't adopt whole cloth maybe I'll see an idea that I like for my 3.x game

... if a question is asked "what do you think about XYZ" as it pertains to 4E, I think the adopters and non-adopters alike have been asked that question, and have a right and responsibility to respond. There are all sorts of polls in this forum that assume non-adopters are here, reading and responding.

I think it's normal for people to want to be involved and to want to talk about any new edition. Same thing happened back when 3E rolled out. People have an investment in the DnD franchise. It's been a part of all our lives and that's partly why people get so worked up over things.

I'm pretty sure that life will go on, though, and that 4E will be fine. Some will switch, some won't, and we'll all get to do this again in seven years or so. ;)

All good reasons. Thank you Stereo, Eric and AZ.

I need to learn to use that ignore button. As a general rule of thumb I should start adding those who feel the need to post in every 4E thread that they are never switching to 4E. They may go on to say something on-topic or even worse may not, but always start with the "I'm not switching" caveat.

I don't know why that has irked me this time around. I'm glad to hear there are people here not wanting to switch that still have positive motives for sticking around.

Thank you for your constructive debate.

Also, everybody has a bad day now and then. now, when you see the same poster picking a bone every time ... well it gets old for everybody.

Oh, and I forgot something, even though this is early : a good adventure is good, regardless of the game system. I am certainly interested in adapting a good module, wherever its from.

After all, if i am able to adapt a Warhamster or Runequest module ... 4 e should not be too bad for me. Of course it is a bit early right now, but ...

I agree and that's probably why I haven't added anyone to my ignore list yet. But some posters have made me wonder if they wander to other message boards, such as the Britney Spears Fansite boards on a daily basis and relate to other posters how they dislike Ms. Spears as a person, detest her music, and would never buy one of her albums.

3.x has problems... 4e seems ready to fix a lot of them. Yeah, it feels like some babies are headed out with the bath water, but I'm slowly coming to the conclusion it might not be a bad thing.

In the meantime, my 3.x game has been improved by house rules based on concepts coming from 4e... as such, I can't wait to see the social encounter system and see if my own is better :)
