Why can't clerics cast "Identify" and "Analyse Dweomer"?

Yeah, but they never really needed it, considering they already know all the cleric spells without having to hunt down grimoires and scrolls.

It's something they can do if they really want to, like a lay programmer, to take Henry's example, is able to create innovative code. But the real nerd genius will do that often.

Look at the number of "Mordenkainen's this or that" or Bigsby's or Tenser's, etc. All were wizards. Compare to the number of spells named after a cleric.

In Forgotten Realms divine spells seem to be named after gods rather than spellcasters; you've got spells like Favor of Ilmater, Hand of Torm, and Shield of Lathander, just to name a few.
