Why do all Privateer Press Minis suck so much?

To put together that is.

I've just spent the past 15 minutes trying to glue the Arm onto the Dwarf Rhulic Pistoleer.

I''ve now got various bits of my body superglued together, but no arm on the dwarf.

I once spent an entire quarter of football holding 2 bits of a PP mini together & they still fell apart.

If this were a Reaper mini, the glue would have taken hold in 10 seconds tops.

I even prep every single PP mini I get. Wash. Repeat. Dry. Rough-up joints.

Attempt to glue. Curse. Curse a lot.

Why are PP minis so hard?

What do they do different?

THis is the glue I use for Reaper, Mag. Egos, & misc companies. PP is the only one I have this problem with. Repeatedly.

Worst Mini I ever put together: WotC Black Dragon

2-20 PP. Hands down. They will just no stick.

Short of Soldering, how do you get PP minis to actually hold together?

Vraille, looking up how to get super-glue off flesh.

I had the same problem with some of the Chainmail miniatures. Luckily for me, after scraping layers upon layers of hardened super glue off of my fingertips, I no long have fingerprints.

Personally I dont go without pinning metal mini's anymore. I pretty much pin on spec now.
It's why I have greater appreciation for plastic mini's now.

Wash the miniature with a dilute mixture of dish soap and water - going over the figure with an old toothbrush. Miniatures are sometimes covered with a little bit of mold release - which prevents things from sticking to the miniature, which includes the rubber mold, super glue, and paint.

Vraille, you might want to revise the title of the thread.

if you were already giving the figs a good scrub with a degreasing soap, the problem might be your local water. If it usually leaves noticeable chalk deposits, you might want to wash your figs with distilled water.

Maybe you are using too much super glue? Just a little should be enough for most joins.

What brand of super glue are you using? I've encountered some tubes that could ONLY bond skin and nothing else.

Holding a fig while it bonds is not always the best. Do you have anyway to clip / tie the fig together while the glue cures?

Acetone disolves superglue. nail polish remover has enough in it to disolve superglue.

Privateer minis look good when they are done, but they don't tend to fit together very well, and require a decent amount of green stuff to smooth over rough coutours. I think their casting tends to be a little sloppy, making assembly a pain in the butt.

As others have said, use dishsoap and some water to clean your mini before glueing, and before I glue, I often use an airbrush to knock off any water or lime deposits the water might leave once it dries.

I use the GW superglue- I find it bonds the quickest and most strongly. Yes, its a little more expensive, but its worth it. Also, just a dab of cyanoacrylate accelerant (Zip Kicker for example) helps the binding process immensly, especially with pinning.

Privateer minis often require pinning too- especially the character and non 'jack minis. Their glueing surfaces for hands and wrists are especially abysmal.

Don't get me wrong, I love Privateer minis, but easy to put together, they ain't.

No, I doubt he does - he knew what he was typing. And they do, in fact, suck hard when trying to assemble them. Scientifically proven.

Vraille, do you play Warmachine with those minis? If not, I don't wanna hear your complaints! Try putting together a whole UNIT of models, each one having several pieces that all apparently hate each other and do their best not to be in contact with each other (lookin' at YOU, Croe's Cutthroats...)

My masochistic bitterness aside, here's whatcha wanna do. Get some Green Stuff putty. Put a teeny bit on one of the pieces - if the pieces have a concave/nub combo, put a little ball of it in the concave part. Put a drop of superglue on the other bit and join them up. The putty holds it together while the glue does its thing, and you'll have a solid bond once they're both dry. I've assembled heavy warjacks like this without pinning - it'll hold a trooper-sized model just fine.

Get new glue. The kind that leaves permanent burn-scars if you accidentily get it on you works well :uhoh:.

What the hell kind of glue are YOU using?! I want to make sure I never accidentally buy it!

Some professional epoxy that my friend get's through his work. The chemical reaction it uses is a bit harmfull to organic matter so it makes burns. And truly glues stuff together. Especially hand to the table which I found out the hard way. Don't worry, you can't get that kind of glue accidentally.
