Why do the PCs go to the Moathouse?

Ahh, good hooks all. I think maybe the original module needs to make a little more explicit the fact that everyone in town knows the Moathouse is out there and always a danger.

The problem is that the module explicitly lays out that Lareth and his bandits have been going out of their way to not draw attention to the Moathouse!

I had a recent thread on this topic, here:

Cheers!

I think maybe you've got the cart before the horse there. The reason Lareth the Beautiful is trying to stay low and raid far from town is because everyone remembers the Moathouse from the last time the Temple rose up.

Well for one thing, there's a giant crayfish right on the cover of the module, and them's good eatin'!

Secondly, our party had a dumb Paladin who wouldn't let us off the villagers (why the heck do they stat them up, then???) for their stuff, so we had to go hang around in the moathouse until he got poisoned and died.

"Because they're stapled to the giant frog!"
OK, no, I was wrong. This.

The simple fact tat it is there and potentially more interesting than chatting with NPCs in town would work for most groups......

Last time I ran this, they spent most of their time in the village chatting it up with the NPCs. :) It was a lot more interesting than when I ran this in High School that is for sure.

As others have mentioned, I used the plot hooks involving Jaroo and Gundigoot.

in the 3.0 return module, I think all I mentioned were the bandits, possibly the treasure that might be there.

the PCs had barely had a single glass of ale and they were out the door and halfway to being frog saddles.

I swear they had less trouble with the dragon than with those frogs.
