Why Enworld?

I apologize if something like this has already been done. I was just curious, why are you, fellow Enworld member, here? Personally, I have very little interest in rules debates or industry gossip but I like looking at the house rules section and all the odd creative stuff that folks come up with. It's also nice to see a large number of gamers in one place. My limited exposure to game systems other than d20 has also been expanded here. I guess that covers everything.

So what brings you here? :)

I'm trolling for diaglo, hong, and Nightfall. But diaglo is here first. So I might as well go back to work.

As all of the rules discussions have been hammered out on various forums, this is the only remaining forum where I continue to find interesting topics and discussions that don't put me to sleep.

I like the rules section when I need a quick answer or explanation of an obscure rule or oddball scenario.

I like the house rules section when I want to put up an idea and get some feedback on, or put an essentially finished product for folks to use if they want. Basically just sharing, and a very good place to yoink stuff from.

As far as deep debates or industry insider bits, I could do without. I might post my 2 bit opinion here and there, but I wont waste lots of effort trying to rally folks to any particular point of view - because I understand the futility of that kind of endeavor.

Odd as this might sound, it is the community and the people. I've been on other boards and just don't see the 'community' aspect as much there.

RPGNet can be rather cool and often times unfriendly to the D&D crowd and you get alot of elitist attitude from the most vocal posters over there. IMO.

The Wizards boards have a low signal to noise ratio....namely mostly noise. IMO.

Monty's boards is good but the discussion is mostly (as expected) about Malhavoc and their products and is a narrower in scope than the ENWorld. They have a good community though. IMO.

Other boards I have been on to a lesser degree don't seem to have a 'community' feel to them and intelligent discussion often turns into pissing contests. Threadjackings are the norm rather than the exception. Amazing how fast discussions (like let say, the Dungeon mag APs) quickly gets threadjacked into 1) roleplaying vs roll playing, 2) editions wars, 3) your not playing the game right, my game is the one true way or 4) some rule argument.

3. More folks in my age group (i.e. 40+ old folks) that I can relate to than on other similar boards
4. More dynamic, thoughtful and creative younger folk that I can relate to than on other similar boards
5. A strong sense of "community" and "neighborhood"
