Why I am not going to watch Game of Thrones

I read the first book, and enjoyed it a great deal. And then I looked over at my wife, who, at the time, was waiting for the next Wheel of Time novel, and wondering if the author was going to drop dead before he finished the series.

So, I put Martin on the shelf, and I intend to pick up the series again when he's well and truly finished - either by finishing it or by he himself being finished.

That's what I'm afraid of as well - that Martin will die before the series is finished.

Heck, I excitedly bought the last book from the series the weekend it came out. I sat down to read it and then realized that it had been so long since the previous book had come out that I had forgotten all but the lead characters. I put it down in frustration and said I won't read it again until either the series is finished or I have the time to re-read the first three books in a reasonable time frame and then actually remember things for books 4 & 5.

... in an age of PVRs and internet streaming (and even piracy/copyright infringement), people are not willing to watch a weekly tv show because of scheduling concerns

Well, even if I had HBO, let me say that my DVR is already working near capacity; I have no interest in Internet streaming; and I won't touch pirated material.

...it seems like these days no one is willing to schedule any of their activities.

You may just have flaky friends- everyone in my circle has very structured lives...though we also have to retsina enough flexibility to change things at short notice.

It sort of boggles my mind that in an age of PVRs and internet streaming (and even piracy/copyright infringement), people are not willing to watch a weekly tv show because of scheduling concerns.

Actually, to go off-topic a bit, it seems like these days no one is willing to schedule any of their activities. It's like you have to leave your time free, just in case something more interesting comes up before your scheduled activity.

Why is that difficult to understand? It's an HBO show. My understanding is it's only on HBO.

Unfortunately, it's not within my budget at the moment to subscribe to the channel, and I'd rather not break the law to watch it. Thus, wait for Blu-Ray release at the end of the season.

I *did* catch the premiere at my sister's fiance's home last week, but I can't count on being invited over every Sunday. If he PVR's it, maybe I can catch up next time I go over.

Seems that, short of subscribing to HBO or buying the Blu-Rays whenever they come out, there *aren't* other options.

I wasn't commenting on the HBO aspect. That's understandable. I was competing on the whole scheduling aspect of the original post, where the poster specifically called out the fact that it was a weekly serial show.
