...and I have a couple of really good friends who complained and complained about 2E being dumped. They hated the notion of 3E. They tried 3E.

Now they don't play anymore. They are the first 2 people that I personally know in the gaming community who tried 3e and are going back to 2e. I think much of their griping actually shaped their opinions long before they tried the game and it hurt their willingness to be open about it.

Revised PHBs will cost 29.99. However, you will be able to download the changes for free from the SRD so please don't start with the pricing issue, ok? Really. :D

The corebooks were priced at 19.99 initially to encourage people to switch from 2e or whatever, and, from what I understand, weren't making WotC money at that price (this was an intentional choice that they made — WotC underpriced them intentionally knowing they wouldn't bring a profit at that price). They're now 29.99 and have been since sometime last winter, I think. Does anyone know if they make money at 29.99? I think my information is generally right, but I might be wrong on specifics. Point is, if you were to buy the 3e books now, they'd cost the same as the 3.5e books will in July.

Price

I think theyre a pretty good deal at $29.99. I paid $40 for FRCS and its only what, 40 pages longer? Think about how much an average hardocer novel costs these days...$29.99 aint that bad, and if youre pinching pennies head over to amazon.

Considering the quality of the pictures, the usefulness of the books (I reference the core more than anything), Im happy with the price. Now if it were $40 I could see people complaining. Maybe they should have made it $40 then at the last minute changed it to $30, think of all the money everyone would be "saving".

Ah well

Technik

PS-you can always go to a store like amazon.com and get it at 20-30% off...

I wish a rule would be established on the boards by the folks in charge that there will be no more threads allowed about 3.5 untill it comes out. I am so sick of hearing about it. I've seen complaints about [Hivemind} threads. Well, they PALE in comparision to the 3.5 threads. (I got no probs with Hivemind)

...and for the record; I'm not wasting my money on new books, but I will use the revised rules, 'cause they seem pretty good.

WotC does make money at 29.99. IIRC, they made some money even at 19.99, though not enough to stay healthy. Anyway, the core books are the main profit source of D&D, surpassing by far the rest combined.

Fair enough. Thanks, Zappo.
