I don't agree. Monk/Paladins make better mounts concerning durability.

The Bodak's problem is that it's a one-trick pony, and its one trick is fairly reviled among players. If the PCs aren't susceptible to its gaze, they can easily cut it to ribbons like a ton of lard. It's just not particularly well-designed monster, in my opinion. It'd be interesting to see how they could rewrite it like they did with the Ogre Mage.

That's what happens when you stack Wildshaping and Bite of the WereX.

And hey, everyone loves big, shaggy mounts that can cast Quickened Flamestrikes and still charge into the smoldering craters for fantastimagoristic amounts of damage.

If you don't like death effects, make a failed save result in d8/caster level uncapped.
