I do have to say that some of the attempts in the latest Superman film to make some things "more realistic" only highlighted the remaining unrealistic bits. I liked it better when it was wholly unrealistic.

That exact same rationale for super-strength was explicitly printed in Aberrant; which was one of the many spiffy details in that setting.
