Why I will go to DDI

I don't know if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but this really jumped out at me. From the 'Critical Hits Article':
"D&D Insider subscription gives access to all books, not just the ones you’ve bought."
That, to me, seems a pretty good deal. I have a laptop out for all my sessions so this is great!
It also allows me to try before I buy all the new books :) I might well just subscribe 1 month in 3 or 4 to get those previews.

I think the access to the D&D Insider is for the VTT, yes?

I gotta say, I'm not going until I can see they got their organizing better. Getting material out in a timely fashion et al.

I'm not sure this is copies of all the books. My interpretation is they are talking about how each book would be "unlocked" in the D&D tools after you activated the PDF. I think the rules database will have all that information, but it won't necessarily be grouped by book. Probably all the feats will be together, etc.

It seems to me that PDFs will be using the current model where you buy each book separately. Pricing would be the big question there.

I pretty much feel the same way. *All* the rules for $10 a month? That's really nice, considering new books cost $30-$40.

I thought the said the PDF idea wasn't working properly so they made the Rules Database instead, and just use the assumption that those who have subscribed own all the books and thus have permission to view all the crunch in the Rules Database?

As for myself, that is also one of the big things making me want to buy a subscription that and if the character creator makes actual character sheets that can be printed out (so not just for online play) and same with the character visualizer (I would love it, if you could put the character visualizer image on the character sheet).

If the DDI rules database works as advertised, I think this is a must buy for any prospective or actual freelancer, like me! I think I can afford the $9.95 per month.

And for us who get work freelancing, it's actually a tax write-off. ;)

Yeah, I can see this being the major draw. Heck, you might not even need the core 3 to play. That's a 120 bucks right there - the price of one year of subscription.

Just from that I can see it being worth the price of admission.

I'm annoyed about the mercantilization of the VTT and I'm not sure I'll buy in, but, this is certainly tipping the scales.

I'm with my fellow inhabitant of the Land of the Long White Cloud. $120/year for both magazines (admittedly in pdf format) plus a whole host of other online tools is a pretty good deal compared to what we would have had to pay to get just the print versions of both Dungeon and Dragon mailed out here every year.

I'm not so keen on the virtual gaming table simply because I've got a real life gaming group that suits my needs but I can appreciate the concept. I am very keen on the rules database (even if it's online-only, unlike the character visualizer, which you will be able to use offline), the encounter builder, and those sorts of tools. I'm also keen on having access to the "extras" they'll be posting online and stuff like that (being a completist just like every other gamer).
