Because he's frustrated with the way it turns out. I haven't seen the movie but from having read the book I don't think it was the best novel to make a movie of in the first place.

And with the fact that Fox had personnel and lawyers on set, demanding he do things a certain way.

The man didn't have creative control over the movie he was supposed to be directing. That'd be enough to piss anyone off, I think, and with good reason.

What I think is interesting is that the American version was cut down to 90 minutes, the European version was two hours and 40 minutes!

Actually, my understanding is that this was a rumor that was recently debunked. The American version is shorter, but only by about 15 minutes.

Is it because there are unnecessary scenes in the European version, or by default Americans have short attention span?

(I'm going with theater economics: more short films to show means more customers come to watch in a day.)

I think it is leisure time and they are profiling us, saying that America's only have so much free time and only want to spend 90 minutes at a movie (at this time of the year - summer we will stick it out for 2 hours).
