D&D General Why is D&D 4E a "tactical" game?

That might depend on the system. I certainly think 4e D&D benefits in this respect from its use of minions and swarms!

As I said, PF2e fights only last about five rounds at most most of the time.

Now what you won't see in a PF2e battle the way they're set up is a really massive group of lower level opponents the way you can in 4e, 13th Age, or even Savage Worlds, for reasons I've described in other posts. But you still can have a combat with weaker opponents who still are some degree of threat and not have it take all day. Its just more likely to be, say, eight (with some other opponents of higher level elsewhere in the fight) than 24, because you won't be deleting one with every hit.

Mod Note:

And here is where we end this session of 4Ed D&D (Defenders & Detractors). Instead of handing out a bunch of warning points and threadbans to posters on BOTH sides, I’m just shutting this down.

(Count yourselves lucky.)

I’m hoping if/when the next 4Ed thread pops up, it won’t be as full of report-generating posts as this one has been. Nobody wins with this kind of stuff going on.
