Why is Forgotten Realms the first setting?

Was there not also soemthing in one of the podcasts about the creation of the Weave causing the existance of a parallel Toril and now that the Weave is gone the two Torils will merge?

I don't know about that, but it sounds like the introduction of Abeir will be more drastic than just someone discovering a whole other half of a globe. Most references mention a "merging of worlds," maybe via the Weave's collapse, maybe via some other reason. If done well, this will be an awesome way to shake up the Realms, and could be argued that the potential for this was always present. Of all the FR developments, this is the one that excites me the most.

The Dragonborn, I think, were introduced in "Grand History;" there was a mention that eggs were falling to the planet and Tiamat and Bahamut encouraged their followers to find them and safeguard them. My guess is that these will be the first Dragonborn, and after a century they will have reproduced and spread.

The Tieflings could be descendants of Narfell or Deep Imaskar, but these cultures trafficked more with demons than devils, and tieflings are supposed to be related to devils. They could also have origins with House Dlardrageth or the Burning Legion, but again these are half-breeds and not full devils. Like Dragonborn, their origin will likely be in present-day Faerun, and the century gap explains their expansion.

Only, judging from the critical reception on FR-oriented forums, there are few FR fans interested in the "New Realms" WotC is brewing for 4E.
I guess most of them will at least buy the first book anyway, just to say how bad it really is to have a more well-grounded opinion about how much they hate it :D

Really, no joke intended, I guess the success of the new FR can only be judged by the supplements following the FRCS, as most people will buy it if only to confirm that they hate the new FR and that they're not going to buy the 2nd, 3rd, .... FR supplement following the FRCS

There was a rumor around that Anchorome or some other blank place will be updated, and described... maybe this...

The nerd in me is VERY interested.

Hey it worked for DC.

The real question, though, is did Elminster get mad and punch time in the process?

Seems to be good for the novel side of things and good for the RPG side of things. The only thing that it's bad for are people who refuse to accept any change in the Realms(or at least one this big) or who refuse to start their campaigns over again in a new time period.
Not necessarily. I have no plan on making a 100-year leap forward. I'm just going to run my FR campaign at its current timeline and just incorporate 4e rules, as if there is no ripple, no earth-shaking event.

IOW, I'm going against the grain (as posted earlier).

I am personally not planning to buy it, just as I didn't buy any of the recent (past year) FR offerings (the only one I am eventually going to end up buying is the Grand History).

If I was running FR right now, I'd probably go this route as well.

However, I have run a Champions campaign that used three different sets of characters, one on 4e, one from Millenium, and one from 5e and used some of that Multiple Crisis stuff there to great effect.

Maybe I'll do the same here.... but in different times.... kinda like Heroes... stop the great disaster or like the last episode of STtNG....

There are few vocals FR fans interested by the New Realms. As always : if we listen the forums, the realms are being betrayed since at least 1988. :D
