Why is there no dwarf-hate?

I think this has alot to do with it. I mean a dwarf is kind of the 'hard working laborer turned butt-kicker' concept. Elves draw on more concepts of the 'rich, powerful, arrogant snobs that never do any work that run around with their little bows and cast magic.' Combine that with the feminine bent that all elves have (regardless of gender) and the male bent that all dwarves have (again, regardless of gender) and you can see how a dwarf gets alot less hate then elves ever do.

Mmm, innate sexism. That's a good reason not to hate dwarves, but their players. Good answer!

Well... I wasn't exactly thinking of it that way, merely a way for the largely male gamer audiance to easier play a female dwarf then a female of just about any other race.

Because Dwarf is the new Elf.

Next edition or so, it will be something else. Tiefling, I suspect. Or Eladrin(?!), or whatever else, for all I care.

yup. 3e is the age of dwarven fanboys. 3e was one crazy party, but in 4e they will awake to find themselves in a pool of their own vomit, bruised and battered from the massive nurf.

"Insularity and general distrust" is often applied to elves as well. With the added aggravant that the elves are portrayed as not only distrusting you, but also as thinking you are a pitiful, inferior being.

I guess how much you hate elves has much to do with how your DM presents them. I never liked Tolkien-style, dripping-with-ancient-wisdom style elves. Going to an elven village in my campaigns was always much more like attending a more hygienic version of Woodstock. As far as I could tell, the players loved all the free drugs, sex, and music they would find. My elves are more like nearly immortal teenagers, who spend most of the day stoned and having sex with whoever is convenient. They are definitely NOT the wisest or most learned race (that would be the Gnomes), but are impulsive and very emotional (CHAOTIC Good). Nor do I make them the oldest race, despite their long lifespans (that's the Gnomes once again). So, my players have never had any real reason for elf-hate.

Dwarves are teh coolest. Honestly dwarves and gnomes to me represent the two most plyable and relaable race. Gnomes are the child within all of us(were grown men playing a game we all have a big kid in us) who still enjoys practical jokes and silly puns and magic tricks. Dwarves are the working joe most of us wind up being. Elves and to a lesser extent halfling are harder to relate to.
