D&D 4E Why is this board so down on 4E critics?

So "the basic premise of the thread has no merit" is not a valid and expressable point of view?

I'd say that it might be. But what you're typing here is not the example that Rel used. There is a huge difference between this:

you said:
"The basic premise of the thread has no merit."

and this. . .

Rel said:
"I won't use it at all, because it SUCKS!"

Is leaping into a conversation in progress and cursing or yelling at others without provocation considered acceptable behavior offline? I don't think it is. Not generally, anyhow.

I'm disappointed. I must admit I liked the "Eric's grandma" principle on these boards.

I'm sorry that it bothers you and I can only say that I (and I suspect most of the people who would use minor invective) am not doing to intentionally offend. However I again will assert that this doesn't signal a change in policy. If such language were disallowed here then I'd probably have been banned a long time ago, to say nothing of having been recruited as a moderator. Which is not to say that we don't draw the line of course, as I've pointed out above and as I once said by way of a slightly altered song lyric:

There might be a few "hells" and "damns"
We don't say "bitch", we say "yes ma'am"
But at ENWorld we just don't use the F-word!

So it sounds like it's agreed that "crap", "crapping" is acceptable language on the boards?

That depends largely on context. The word itself is not forbidden, but we may still come down on a particular usage.

Actually, the only difference is how precise the language used to express the poster's sentiments was. So this basically amounts to a penalty on those without the wherewithal to express themselves precisely.

(Society does it all the time, of course. I'm just pointing it out so we're all aware of it.)
